ブラジルのサッカー選手を夢見る孤児たちを育てる団体に、カズが
サッカーボールを送ったことがあった。それも、200個ものボールを。
子供たちは、とても喜んだ。

しばらくして、やはりＪリーグが同団体にボールを寄付することになった。
エージェントが現地へ赴き、少年たちにボールを渡す。少年たちはやはり喜んだが、
渡されたアディダスのボールを見て

「アディダスじゃなく、メーカーは『カズ』が良かったな」
「『カズ』のボールはとても使いやすかったんだ」

と口々に言う。

Ｊリーグのエージェントは首をひねった。カズ？そんなメーカーがあっただろうか？

「これだよ(*´∀｀*)」

と、手渡されたボロボロのボールを見てエージェントは驚いた。
すでにかすれてしまっているものの、ボールにははっきりとサインペンで

「夢をあきらめるな　カズ」

と、現地の言葉で記した跡があった。
200個ものボール全てにカズは自筆のメッセージとサインを入れ、渡していた。
それを子供たちは「カズ」というメーカーのボールであると思い込んでいたのだ。

サッカーを愛する心は、国も、人種すら飛び越えて伝わる。
そう感じたエピソードだった。
